Indian Wedding Gift Mishap: Bizarre, Funny and Oh-so-useless

We all know how Indian weddings are! So full of fun, naach gaana, sangeet, mehendi and not to forget the lena dena or wedding gifting that tops the chart in Indian wedding typicality. Yes, there are plenty of things and features that describe a typical Indian wedding and wedding gifts are something that is much talked about.
A few takes it too seriously and rack their brains finding out a significant one for the married couple. Whereas there are few who believes in recycling and forgets the agenda of gifting in the first place. We understand and respect that gift giving ceremony includes a few factors; budget, time, value, personal bonding, so and so forth. But then, we also get to see some unnecessary, useless and at times bizarre gifts that are good only to occupy the space in your home. Here is our list of the top weirdest gifts that an Indian couple do not want at their wedding. Decide and decode for yourself whether these lovingly-wrapped gifts are actually worthy or not.
Bedsheets/ Upholstry- Too Broad and Basic
Thanks you thought broad and wide but the newly wedded couple do surely not like like the bunch of bedsheets and curtains out there. It becomes shocking for the bride and groom to collect so many after the wedding is over. Bedsheets are surely not irrelevant but it gives a low to see them as a wedding gift. Aren’t these overdone? The edgy bride and groom want to steer clear of anything that is common. An effort of choosing something of their taste would have been appreciated.
Flower Vases- Boring Bunches
Too laid back to look beyond! It’ a number one pick that keeps adding on to numbers. After all how many do you need? Weren’t the real ones gifted by relatives and friends enough? The artificial flowers and vases only add to numbers after all. It’s remote, outdated ad so much like an auntiji’s choice. It’s a safe choice but not unique and tasteful. You can never have too much of guldastas. After all how many do you need to deck up your home?
Sarees, Dress Materials or Fabrics- Cut it short
Thank you! You have not just given us a gift but a project that would incur ‘n’ number of trips to the tailor. The catch is that the task of putting together the lovely fabrics into something wearable will come on the lady (bride). The sarees and fabrics are arguably the most useful but not that thrilling anymore. Also, for those who don’t indulge in stitching game, these are totally like a dump. It would have been still okay if there were ready-to-wear clothes. Well, the size issue is the excuse they have to present you the fabric pieces.
Kitchen appliances- Don’t Dish These Out
A bride will surely get pissed off with the idea of being transformed into a ‘Queen of the Kitchen’. Also, the efforts towards offering her a fully function kitchen will not go down well with her. Let’s be clear! This gift giving option for kitchen doesnot compliment the choice of the couple and doesn’t fit well with the already stocked kitchen with high-end and designer appliances, dinner sets, and crockery or storage containers.
Pressure Cooker- Too Steaming
We have already mentioned kitchen appliances for sure but pressure cooker deserves a special mention for being the most common and ordinary gift by elders, especially aunties. We can only appreciate this gift for being practical and relevant but the oh-so-ordinary touch makes it a strict no-no. Also, it’s not that tough to figure out that the same pressure cooker is being recycled since years.
